A web page with this tag indicates that the destination of that hyperlink should not be credited any additional ranking by user agents (search engine bots) which perform link analysis upon web pages (search engines). For example, on your web page you link to a neat article found on some person's blog. Rather than boost the ranking of that blog, you can add the tag to your link which allows you to not 'endorse' the site, just link to it.

Legitimate Link Building

Link building can include, blog posts, directory submissions, link exchanges, or other advanced link building efforts such as link baiting. Search engines are cracking down on 'Paid Links' so if you are doing, or planned on doing that, forget it. Save your money because doing so will put your web site at risk (if caught) and be dropped from the index. The best method currently is to do a link exchange with other similar and relevant content as to what your web site is about.

Link Baiting

Link baiting doesn't have to be as negative as it sounds (though people will abuse it most likely). Simply said, link baiting is basically attracting anyone who can link to your site to your web site...and have their web sites present your link to as a web site to visit. The trick is, to have a web page that creates this type of social buzz where everyone wants to link to it.

Local Listing

You should optimize your web site to attract local traffic by showing your address and local phone number prominently at the top of the web page. Use Yahoo Maps or Google Maps to display the location of your store (if you have one). You should also submit your web site to the free local listings services on Google (which now display 10 locations) and Yahoo. You will also need to make sure your web site is listed in local directories such as City Search and ask customers to leave reviews of your business on these web sites.

If you have any interest in getting high search engine rankings for your website (and who doesn't) you've probably been sold the idea that writing and publishing your own articles will do it for you.

Here's why that's not entirely true.

Imagine the following scenario...

You write an article around a keyword or keyphrase you want to rank well for.

You submit that article to all the article submission sites and directories and ezines you can find.

Your article gets published in hundreds of places.

You now have hundreds of links pointing back to your main site...

But your own site never shows up in the top ten results for that particular keyword or keyphrase.

Instead you find that there are lots of other sites carrying your article that rank better than yours.

You've completely missed out on an excellent opportunity to get high rankings for your keyword or keyphrase.

Even worse... you just handed your precious keyword-rich content on a platter to possible competitors who happened to publish your article on their website, and may have lost some of your most targeted visitors and sales to them.

All three companies continually adjust their algorithms to provide users with the best search results. Tactic #1: Select Great Keywords

Your first priority should be to select great keywords that describe your organization and the content within your Web site. It might be tempting to save time by developing a list of keywords, some specific and others broad, and then applying all of them on every page throughout your Web site. However, you will achieve greater results by selecting 10 custom keywords or phrases for each page of content within your site. For example, select 10 keywords and use them exclusively on your home page, followed by 10 different keywords for each subsequent page of content.

When selecting keywords, avoid words that are broad or vague. Broad or vague keywords provide little benefit because likely too many other pages are currently indexed in the search engines using those keywords. To illustrate, lets use AVSGroup.com as an example. Open a new browser window and go to Google. Search on the term Web Site Design. Look at the upper right corner where Google displays the number of pages currently indexed for the keywords. Google has already indexed about 22 million pages for Web Site Design.

Instead of competing against 22 million pages for Web Site Design, AVS chose to optimize a page of content for Web Strategy Development. This phrase precisely describes one of AVSs Web services, and because fewer pages are indexed, there is a greater likelihood of achieving a high ranking. To illustrate, go back to Google. Tactic #2: Convert Keywords into Traffic

Once you have selected great keywords, the keywords must be incorporated into the right locations within your Web site to drive more traffic. Some of the best places are within your sites page title, META description, and META keywords. Google, Yahoo, and MSN look for keywords in these locations to help properly index a sites content.

If you are unfamiliar with how to view a page title, open a new browser window and go to AVSGroup.com. The page title is the white text that appears inside the bar at the top left of your browser window.

Next in importance is the META description and META keywords. Both are used to describe the content found on a particular page. To locate the METAs, open a new browser window and go back to AVSGroup.com. Click on the View drop down menu within your Internet Explorer window. You will see several options including View Source. Select View Source. This will display the HTML used to create the AVSGroup.com home page. At the top of the page, you will see the META description and META keywords.

You will achieve the greatest success if you develop custom page titles, META descriptions, and META keywords for each page within your Web site using the keywords that you selected earlier.

Tactic #3: Link Building

Link building is an SEO term that means requesting other Webmasters to add a link to your Web site within their Web site. This usually takes place in two ways. Webmasters will sometimes add your link within their own sites content because your Web site could be a valuable resource to their site visitors. You can also encourage Webmasters to post your content onto their Web site provided they include a link to your Web site within the credits.

For the first example, open a new browser window and go to http://www.viroqua-wisconsin.com/. Scroll to the bottom of the page and you will see a link that reads Web site design and development by The AVS Group. This link provides AVSGroup.com with additional traffic if someone were to click the link, but more importantly, the link helps increase our Page Rank. More on Page Rank later.

Next, open a new browser window and go back to Google. Search on the phrase e-mail marketing tips. You should see a link that reads Learn Successful E-mail Marketing Tips (it might even be the number two ranked site). Click on this link and you will find a Web site that is featuring one of The AVS Groups Resources articles. This is an example of leveraging your Web site content by permitting other Webmasters to post it and provide a link back to your site. Scroll to the bottom of the article and you will see a link to AVSGroup.com.

Your link building activities increase what is known as, Page Rank. Page Rank is a measure that Google uses to evaluate the relevancy of a Web sites content. If you have hundreds or even thousands of Web sites linking to your Web site using these two examples, Google will consider your Web site to be more relevant. You will earn a higher Page Rank score, resulting in improved search results for your Web site against sites that might even be optimized for the same keywords.

Article Marketing is Great, But Avoid This Common Mistake

Posting articles on to web sites is one of the latest methods that web site owners and search engine optimisation practitioners use to get more and better quality traffic. Articles allow you to get multiple links with a lost less effort and better results than link exchanges and other more traditional methods.

The problem is if you submit exactly the same article to multiple sites, Google, Yahoo and some other search engines will ignore a lot of the articles due to a filter often called the duplicate content penalty. Nobody really knows how this filter works or at what level an article is rejected. Here's some techniques to overcome this penalty.

Mix and match the article elements

Your typical article directory article consists of a title, a summary, a body, an author/resource box and article keywords. The theory is if you have multiple versions of each element and combine those elements differently each time you post your article, there is less chance the search engines will see the article as a duplicate and give the article it's rightful place in the main index.

Let us say you have four different versions of each of the four major elements (assuming the keywords stay pretty much the same), that means for a little extra effort you can have 4 x 4 x 4 x 4 = 256 versions of basically the same article reducing the chances of the articles being penalized.

Article Summary

In forum posts discussing the duplicate content penalty a consistent theme is that the article summary, or snippet as it is often called, is examined very closely by the search engines for existing duplicates. As with the title, it is useful to have numerous and very different versions of that article summary.

Article Body

The best tip with the article body is to structure the text into blocks that can be rearranged at will and still make sense. The filter will not be able to identify duplicate content as easily as exact copies. This approach also makes writing the article far easier than trying to create a 500 word block of text.

Another tip when dealing with the body copy is to replace words and phrases with meaningful, but different equivalents. For example, in writing this article I can substitute the term SEO practitioner, for search engine marketer, webmaster, web site owner, online marketer or even Google guru. The article still makes sense, but it is textually different to other versions. In other words the article still has the same tone and meaning but has a large proportion of different words.

Article Titles

The article title is very important from a reader point of view as well as a duplicate penalty point of view. Many article directories use the title of the article as the basis for creating the url to that articles page. By varying the article title there is less chance of the search engines believing they have already indexed that page.

Article resource box

As most SEO practitioners realize, the resource box is a very important element, if not the most important element, of the article. It is in the resource box that article authors get the opportunity to link to the most appropriate pages in their web site. As with the other elements it can be beneficial to change the text in this section so as to avoid the duplicate content penalty. Just by rearranging the order of links and anchor text can produce excellent results.

Article marketing is a popular technique of promoting your web site, getting links and building online credibility. The trouble is if you submit exactly the same article to multiple article directories, you run the risk of Google ignoring your article and those all important links due to the duplicate content penalty. Why Article Marketing Works so Well For Creating Profits Online

So many people look at article marketing as just a traffic source. And it is a traffic source. But it is so much more. You see, with most traffic sources, the impact of the traffic source ends once the traffic is delivered.

But with article marketing, the traffic source continues creating credibility long after the initial traffic is delivered.

In my case, with 1000's of live articles online, someone may join my list, and later decide they want more information about something online, then they go to read some of my other articles. The advantage to this is increased credibility, and that helps me generate more sales in the long run, as my subscribers continue to look to me for advice, knowing they can get it either directly from me or by reading more of my articles online.

This creates long term credibility online, which of course is what I am looking for.

I continue to get traffic from articles I submitted over a year ago - which means I am getting much more traffic than if I had paid for traffic one time up front.

People new to Internet Marketing often ask me, "Whats the best way to start in Internet marketing?"

Im going to tell you a story about myself as a case study.

When I started, I had no HTML experience, and I couldnt put up a decent web page. I sucked at writing copy and I didnt know how to edit audio. I didnt know what an autoresponder series was, I didnt know how to make a redirect, and I didnt know how to approach people properly for a joint venture. I had no idea that list building was where any newbie should start. I think youre beginning to get the point, right? I didnt know anything.

So, the whole time I was learning marketing, the whole ADD idea was going on in the background for me. I wanted to be the Tony Robbins of attention deficit disorder, but I needed to figure out how to do that.

You can make a link between what youre doing with marketing, with your income, or your life and marketing, too. The question is "how" and thats where you have to apply some creativity. The first part is to really identify with what it is youre trying to go for and why it is youre doing what youre doing. Its the big picture here. Step #1 - Setting Goals

Before you can really get started you have to know what you want to achieve with your Web site. There could be a number of goals that you have in mind but your first step is get a clear picture of what you want the outcome to be. It could be:

To gain higher rankings.

To redesign your Web site to be more user friendly.

To implement SEO basics throughout your site to make it search engine friendly.

To increase your visitor response online.

To open additional windows to your site through social media marketing.

To launch an article marketing plan.

Or all of the above.

What ever your goal is it is important to write it down and post it where you can see it every day. "Goals that are not written down are just wishes."

Step #2 - Keyword Research

Any new project should always include this step. Keyword research is the basis for any successful page on your site. Let's take the goals above and see how the keyword research you learned to perform in your seo training can be used.

Step - # 3 - Which one to choose?

Stop here and go find five phrases to work with and don't even think about anything else at this point.

After you find those phrases refer back to your SEO training notes and refresh your memory on how to create a search engine friendly Web page and create content for each of the new keywords you found.

It is going to be hard not to get side tracked but stick to the project at hand. Your only concern is finding 5 phrases, creating content and designing five search engine friendly pages.

Once that is done go ahead and publish the five pages to your Web site. Include each page on your site map, link it from and to relevant pages on your site and include keyword rich link text within the body of the page.

Make a note of the day you added the new pages to your site for later use.

Now that you have the first three steps under your belt you are ready to move onto step four.

Step #4 - Addressing Existing Web Site Issues

Now that you have gotten a good start with the above steps, you can start working on bringing your current Web site up to par while you are actually waiting for indexing on your 5 optimized pages. Your next plan of attack would be working on existing pages within your site. You may not be able to change every issue with your site but remember every small change could result in increased ranking for your site. You may only be able to change your title and Meta tags and not be able to change your corporate sites navigation so tackle what you can and don't worry about the rest. Each and every issue is just one of the over 200 factors so learn to pick your battles and fix what you can.

Step #5 - Social Media and Article Marketing

Your whole goal is to open as many windows into your site as possible. You have already started this by creating 5 new pages into your site now it is time to open the windows even further. Whether you decide to use article marketing or all the endless possibility of social media marketing now is the time to concentrate on one or both of these window opening wonders.

You can use the five phrases you found in your first step or you can find 5 new ones but at this stage you are creating content to be used in articles, on blogs or bookmaking pages within the many social media avenues. Your title is the most important element when tackling this step. Make your title keyword rich, compelling and deliver what your title describes in the article or blog post.

If you are not quite ready to dive into social media start at least with adding a blog to your Web site. Your best results will come from the blog residing on your server and not one that is hosted on a free blogging site. Make a commitment to blogging regularly and always about your industry so your site and your blog are industry related.

Web analytics can show you information about all of your optimization projects. Not only will it show you your results for the 5 keyword phrases you are working on but it will open your eyes to how your visitor is moving through your site. Your Web site and or clients are depending on your expertise so don't let them down by applying out of date or useless techniques. There are many places you can turn to for guidance.

"I did what you said and I'm getting 100 visitors a day from Google. But they still aren't buying my product."

Never minding that some small businesses would be deliriously happy with 3000 addiitonal visitors a month - what do you do when the plan you had to increase your search engine traffic doesn't give you the results you want?

You re-evaluate your plan.

Did you target the right keyword? Are your pages ready to convert? How's your lead capture system? Do you even have one?

You'll need to ask yourself all these questions, and more, but before you even get to that, here's the thing that doesn't seem obvious, the thing you have to resolve before you can move forward.

There's some outside chance - way, way outside - that an increase in search engine traffic just isn't the right way to solve your traffic problem.

What's more likely is that you have made one of the following mistakes or oversights. Before you abandon hope, make sure that the reason for lack of conversions isn't one of the following reasons.

1. You're trying to generate more traffic than a particular keyword can provide.

There might not be ten thousand people online looking for how to make ropes out of cheese every day. If your area is obscure, find out how much of a traffic yield you can expect from search engines, get as much of it as you can, then move on.

2. It would work if you would do all the steps.

In every plan, you'll have to work on optimizing both your content and how it is found. There's just no two ways about it. Depending on your site and how it delivers its information, how frequently it does so, and how many sites are linking to it, and a host of other factors, whether you'll have to lean more on updating content or links will vary.

There's no cookie cutter solution, so do all the suggested steps for traffic success.

3. You don't have a plan.

You know what they say about a failure to plan. If you don't, trust me, it ain't good. Have a goal. If you don't know what to set it on, base it on an increase in revenue. Think backwards from the increase in buyers you would need to make the kind of money you'd like.

4. You're using the wrong plan.

Not every traffic generation method you can leverage for search engine traffic is good for every site or business.

While it's true that the proper blog configuration can turn your site into a search engine magnet, that isn't the only reason to blog, and it doesn't mean that just any platform is suited to your site.

By all means, don't stop blogging because no one is reading your blog - find out why and address that problem. It could be that they can't find it, but it could just as well be what you're writing about.

5- You bought into a sales pitch as a search engine traffic plan.

I'm not going to tell you that article marketing won't help your search engine traffic if executed correctly. I will, however, tell you that most people don't set it up to get the most benefit out of the process, and that it's not a search engine strategy in and of itself.

6. You're paying no attention to analytics, so you have no idea what changed and when.

Getting 100 visitors a day to a site that was getting none is a triumph. Getting 100 visitors a day from search engines to a site that used to get 1000 search engine visitors a day? Not so much.

You need, at bare minimum, a starting place to compare to, or else how do you know you've gotten anywhere?

7 - The traffic plan is fine. Your conversion plan isn't so hot though.

If Google sends you a million visitors and they land on a page full of huge banners, they'll just leave. Give every page a clear purpose, and make sure each one has the ability to get your visitors to buy, subscribe, join, or whatever you'd like them to do, right then or on another day.

Those are the seven most common ways that search engine traffic can leak back out of your site. Even if one of those doesn't solve your search engine traffic problem, if you take action on each applicable point, it will at least help you get more out of your existing traffic.

Three Things You Must Do Before You Submit To Article Directories

SEO is the one of the most important skill sets any internet marketer should have. It's one of the easiest and most profitable forms of traffic any website owner could receive. Search Engine Traffic is not the easiest to obtain however. One of the most important things a website owner should learn is how to optimize their web pages specifically for the search engines.

First things first, you should have your keyword picked out and ready to go. Once you've got that you can proceed to optimizing your web page.

It's also recommended that you have a rudimentary understanding of HTML.

Title Tags

The first thing you should do is include your keyword inside the title tags. The title tags are the first elements right after the head tags. They look like this

It's best that you include some other related text after you input the keyword. If my keyword was SEO I'd input something like

<title>SEO - Tips And Tricks For Optimizing Webpages</title>

You can also add the title element to your outgoing links.

Header Tags

Header tags are in my opinion the second most important part of on page optimization right after optimized content. Header tags look like

<h1></h1> and should be placed right before the content of your website. You should always place your keyword in header tags with a few other words relevant to your content. Also, always bold your keyword in your header tags.

Bold Your Keywords

It's always a good practice to add bold tags to your keyword when in your content. Bold tags look like

<b></b> and your keywords should always be enclosed in them whenever they come up in your content.

Image Alt Tag

If you can swing it, your keyword should be included in the alt tag of one of your images. The ALT element can be added to an image if it isn't already. If you need help with this part of on page optimization then I suggest you look it up at htmlhelp.com.

Keywords In Your Content

You should always include your keyword in your content. It's always better if you keep your keyword density around 3-6%. Keyword Density means your keyword should make up 3-6% of your content. Content should always be unique and relevant to your website.

If you follow all of these steps and techniques you should be on your way to ranking over your competitors. Remember, on page optimization isn't the deciding factor when it comes to rankings. Build your links and create good content for best results.

Sometimes I get asked, you write so many articles that are very similar in nature, why would a publisher pick one of your articles over another one of your articles, or why would you get more traffic since you are writing multiple articles on the same topic.

Actually I'm not writing these articles so anybody can go to EzineArticles and pick them. I'm writing them so that the Google search engine will pick up the article.

For example, if you type in lots of different keywords in the article writing niches, in product creation, in website traffic generation, if you type those in you'll see that my articles in EzineArticles tend to come up relatively high in the Google search engine. That's what I'm targeting.

Most of EzineArticles traffic - my understanding is that it comes from the Google search engine and not from people who are just searching around EzineArticles itself, so I'm attempting to go for that one unique page that is going to pique someone's interest.

The second thing is we've done multiple tests on this, and of course the more articles that we write then there's a marginal decrease in the number of visitors we get per article, but it still increases the total volume of visitors.

We've kind of found that this number between 600-800 articles submitted per month is kind of an optimal number. It gives us a good number of visitors per article and this doesn't go over the board. We've actually gone as high as 2,000 in one month and found that at that level we didn't increase our visitors much past the level that we're at with about 800.

The problem that I see every day with my students, members, and mentees, is that most writers do not know how to create or craft a powerful call to action.

How to create a powerful call to action

One of the principles on the Internet is that you cannot assume, ever, that the reader or visitor knows what to do next. In fact many readers do not know what to do next and therefore do not think.

I'll call to action is simply a request or invitation for the reader to take your most desired action. If you want the reader to download a free information product that your most desired action. If you want the reader to subscribe to a newsletter, then that your most desired action.

The point is simply this - you must invite the reader to take the next step which is your most desired action.

Here is an example of a call to action -

"Would you like free access to two of my Article Writing Templates? You can download them by going to (my url)."

In the above example I have taken the reader by the hand and invited them to take the next action that I desire them to take. That is a gentle yet powerful call to action for your resource box at the end of your articles.

I hear this so often, and many folks don't get started because they don't know where to start. They get confused. If you sign up for a few lists, you end up getting the product of the day that will change your life and you must have if you're going to be successful. It's very confusing.

I saw a presentation recently that was proposing to teach all of internet marketing, and they mentioned 40 different entry points. That's a lot to have to manage.

One of the ways around that is to pick one that's a gateway into the rest and get going. That allows you to cut the noise, because if you're listening to everybody and listening to every offer and getting everything, like I did at first - I wish I hadn't done that years ago - you wind up confused, feeling like you're busy, feeling like you're stressed, feeling like you're doing a lot, but not having great results.

Often we see folks writing articles and putting them online in order to attract clientele to their websites to buy something, yet many times these authors of articles use pen names. When someone uses a pen name, and I contact that person to do business later on and find out their real name, this to me also tells me they are not really experts or they are hiding something.

I think if you are promoting a product or service on the Internet not only should you put your name in the Resource Box or after the article, but also use your Real Name, if not is seems like a deceptive "Shrill" tactic and is borderline "Fraud" and definitely BUZZ Marketing questionable tactics. Indeed, I deplore dishonesty on the web and I believe not using your real name, is dishonest and deceptive, whether it is in a forum, blog or on an online article, especially if your article is trying to sell something or get someone to come to your website to sell them something.

I have no respect for those people who put fake names and use deception tactics in marketing, I think you ought to be put in jail. Nothing urks me more, actually and it is deplorable that there is not more integrity online. I am in fact shocked that more people do not agree with me and lack the personal character and integrity to stand by their words and on the moral high-ground. It is a real statement about the person in my opinion.

Create a record of submission document for your blog to keep track of submission dates, member registration information, etc. Many of the better blog directory sites require a reciprocal link or tracking script to get listed, so work with your technical support person to place a reciprocal link on the page.

Make sure that the information you submit to the directories is consistent. Meaning, always submit the same title and description for your blog. The title you submit should be the title tag and meta description for your blog - both written using optimized copy rich with your blog's keywords.

Based on comScore data from February, 2007, Google is the leading search provider in volume with 3.3 Billion searches per month. Yahoo scores 2 Billion, MSN: 730 Million, Ask: 348 Million and AOL serves 338 Million. These statistics show that the 5 major search networks were responsible for over 6.7 Billion searches per month or about 35.6 searches per user.

Pay Per-click advertising works by charging the advertiser a set auction price that they establish for each keyword. Every time that ad is clicked, the advertiser pays that set amount. PPC advertising has both distinct advantages, which at the same time can be considered shortcomings, over search engine optimization and other forms of interactive and traditional marketing.

Being the latest and greatest in interactive and on-line marketing, PPC advertising offers guaranteed placement, complete transparency and analysis down to a very granular level. Through the use of built-in search engine tools, commonly available analytics, and tracking techniques, the marketer can track when the ad was clicked, how much they paid for that click, what that user did after that click on the site, and whether or not that click was converted into a conversion. They can then take that data, analyze their entire campaign, determine how successful their spend vs. return was and make an educated decision on how to improve that effort.

Campaign-wide decisions and changes can be made by quickly analyzing a set of data and making a few simple clicks with PPC thus giving it a distinct advantage over any other type of interactive media.

Shortcomings:

Because it is now considered mainstream, everyone from major international corporations to mom-and-pop shops are bidding on the same industry keywords, driving up click costs considerably. The strategy of taking a loss on a click but taking the chance of a consumer becoming a lifetime value customer is known as volume bidding and is sometimes employed by new companies looking to brand their name causing smaller companies struggling to compete.

Click fraud is another shortcoming where automated robot programs or manual clickers perform erroneous or intentional clicking on PPC ads without any intention to view the site or make a purchase.

Another issue is trust: the users that are aware that they are clicking on sponsored listings tend to assume (correctly) that the site is trying to sell them something. Statistics show that a majority of searches are information-based so not all consumers will want to be overwhelmed with sales pitches on the site.

Coined sometime in 1995 or 1996, SEO is the process of modifying the layout, navigation, content and popularity of a website to improve the chances of ranking higher in the organic or algorithmic search results. SEO has some great merits that have helped it stay on top as one of the most effective interactive marketing methods around, but some of the basic aspects of SEO are also shortcomings that must be considered.

Advantages:

Search engine optimization tends to be less expensive than PPC advertising in the long-run. Attaining positive results through good navigation, content and link profile requires a lot of initial optimization work but with time, as those results appear, the long-term costs tend to decrease. SEO has also been known to have a slightly higher conversion rate than PPC advertising, thus improving the return on the marketing dollar.

With search engine optimization - search engine guidelines, best practices and algorithms are often updated and changed. What may have worked a year ago may not necessarily work today making SEO an art form that is incredibly hard to keep up with.

6. Multi Variant Testing Landing page or multi variant testing involves analyzing multiple landing pages that deliver a different layout, call to action, conversion form or message. Often times, simply moving one part of the page to another area and changing some of the wording can significantly alter usability and conversion rate.

7. Day-Parting Day-Parting analysis is useful when the business has specific limitations or previous testing has shown that certain ads perform better at certain times. Article marketing is one of my favourite methods of traffic generation. It is free and it generates leads that convert up to 10 times better than leads from other sources.

A few years ago search engine optimization was extremely simple. All you needed to do was get a few reciprocal links and repeat the keywords that you were targeting and you would get good search engine rankings.

These days the search engines have become a lot more advanced. Google uses Trust Rank which basically means that you need to at least have some sites that it trusts to link to you to achieve good rankings. For example this could be a human edited directory like Yahoo or a major article directory like EzineArticles. The other very important factor is that keyword density is becoming insignificant with latent semantic indexing. For example Google will look at the theme of a website and base the rankings of a particular keyword on all the content on your website.

The point that I am trying to make is that before all you needed to do was stuff your keywords in your web page and you would achieve good rankings. These days you need to have content based on a similar theme to achieve those same rankings for a keyword.

Here is a very advanced strategy that will work very well with latent semantic indexing. You need to use a silo structure on your website. So for example if you have a body building website and your home page has a link to abdomen training. You can improve your rankings by including a link to your category and from this category you would have links to all the subcategories. In this example this could be lower abdomen training.

E-zine advertising is perhaps one of the most underused forms of promotion. It is a good idea to do your homework, before launching your viral marketing campaign. Article writing and publishing has become the latest buzz in the internet website marketing world. The name of the game as far as Internet marketing

Just when you are ready to give up article marketing forever... you find out that if you do just a little more, you can blow the roof off the top of your online business.

Let me guess, you have heard all about article marketing, and you have even submitted a few articles. Sure, five years ago that might have been a great way to drive traffic to your website, but it just doesn't work like that anymore. I mean, look at the 5 articles I have submitted, I have just passed 100 views, and only three people clicked through to my website.

That was a lot of work writing those articles, and it sure was not worth having only 3 people click through to my website. I am just going to go back to pay per click, at least I know I am getting some regular viewers to my site, and it only took me 15 minutes to set it up.

Does this sound familiar? It should, it represent 90 percent of the people who post articles on article directories. Let me share a little secret with you that might change your mind. You have to post more than 10 articles. One of the top article directories has said that 90 percent of all authors who publish in their directory never publish more than 9 articles.

I have to admit, I have published more than 50 articles, and there are days when I feel a little discouraged. Then I noticed this interesting statistic on another authors *Extended Author Bio.* EzineArticles.com shows how many articles an author has posted and then it shows how many views they have gotten to date. Here is the first one I looked at: 465 Active articles, resulting in 50,335 views.

When I first read this, I thought it had to be a misprint. I mean, my best article today only has just over 90 views. Even if all of my articles finally ended up with 90 views, that would only be 4500. Then I thought that he has probably been publishing for 10 years. Nope, all of his articles had been published within the last three years. What? How can that be? Even if you multiply 4500 X 3, you only get 13,500. I thought that 13,000 was the absolute best I could ever hope for: boy was I wrong!

I decided to look into it further to see if there was some kind of mistake. I will admit, I had read that at some point when writing articles, you hit what they call, *critical mass.* They say that it is somewhere between 100 and 250 articles. Anyway, here are a few of the stats that I found with very little research:

1,130 Active articles, resulting in 670,296 views, Member since April 27, 2005

58 Active articles, resulting in 27,164 views, Member since March 24, 2005

45 Active articles, resulting in 13,449 views, Member since July 19, 2006

74 Active articles, resulting in 194,018 views, Member since October 27, 2004

After I found these, I decided to focus on authors that had around 200 articles, since that is around where they say you hit critical mass. Here is what I found just around the 200 articles published mark:

238 Active articles, resulting in 339,172 views, Member since June 28, 2005

233 Active articles, resulting in 30,740 views, Member since October 25, 2007

232 Active articles, resulting in 184,233 views, Member since November 01, 2005

231 Active articles, resulting in 57,886 views, Member since July 14, 2006

236 Active articles, resulting in 63,417 views, Member since December 06, 2005

At 200 articles, if you received 90 views each, which I thought was impossible until today, which comes out to 18,000 views per year. The longest time any of the authors over 200 has been publishing is 2.5 years. That means they should have, in a perfect world, 46,250 views max. Only one author has not blown that number out of the water, and he or she has only been publishing less than a year.

Now I have to admit, I had no idea that there was anywhere near this kind of potential. I pride myself on answering questions that you just can't seem to find the answers to anywhere else. This is one of those questions I have had for a while. Just give it to me straight, what can I expect? Well, here it is.

I didn't use any of the author's names, because this is not allowed on many directories. And remember, to see these numbers you do have to look at the extended author bios. If the author has not posted their picture and information about themselves, the directory doesn't setup an extended author page. This means you can't see these numbers on everyone.

I can tell you this, after looking at these findings, I am so motivated that I am taking the rest of the day off from my job to write articles. Looks like the first one to 200 articles wins see you there.

1. Produce well-written articles. The quality of your articles determines the success of your marketing campaign. So make sure that your articles are well-crafted, grammatically sound, free from spelling errors, flow well, and most importantly, factually correct.

2. Focus on your topic. Make sure that all your information are geared toward explaining your central topic. It would help your marketing strategy better if your topic is relevant to your offerings so you can persuade online users to visit your site or your sales page. One great way to do this is presenting problems being faced by your target market, and then present your products as solution.

3. Hire a ghostwriter. In article marketing, the more articles you submit, the better. Its because you get much more back links to your site and provide much more information to your readers. But writing 5-10 articles a day can be tedious. It will not allow you to do other marketing campaigns to better drive traffic to your site. To make this possible, I suggest that you hire a ghostwriter who can produce equally great articles. This will help you speed up the process of getting traffic to you site and at the same time establish your self as an expert.

We threw away 30 visitors to our blog. It was real easy and you can do it too. (I hope you see me smiling)

We posted an excellent content filled article on collage making to several article directories. We had allowed several weeks to go by without checking the statistics.

Finally, late one evening, I decided to look at all the statistics in all the article directories. Well, knock me over, the article on collage making had over 2,000 views on one of the largest article directories on the internet. It also had also been published in 16 E-zines.

We were excited. Then, I decided to peek at the website we used. There had been additional sites created that might fit in the resource page of that article. We were horrified to see a broken link. That means that those 30 clicks on that bad link were trashed. But wait it only gets better. Remember those 16 E-zines that downloaded and published the article? We wonder how many visitors tried to reach our blogs after viewing those articles all over the world.

The morale of this story is to check your links and review your article statistics on a regular basis. You don't want to throw away potential visitors to your sites. Learn from our mistake and errors. After all once you make a mistake you usually will not make it again unless your brain cells are not functioning.

The other lesson is to avoid posting an article to the directory late at night when you are tired. Write it, review it, and go to bed.

Three Things You Must Do Before You Submit To Article Directories

Without fresh, unique content, your website is destined for second best. Or even failure. The search engines won't cater to it and visitors will be bored and click elsewhere. If you want high-quality, action-taking visitors, then you need the best in one-of-a-kind content.

Perhaps you're using free articles to flesh out your web pages. Maybe you've taken the next step and invested in PLR (Private Label Rights) groups, where you can use their content and sign your own name. This is great in that it's fast. But that's where the advantage ends.

When the search engines come calling, they will immediately notice that your articles look exactly the same as other articles they've seen all over the web. Yes, this means your PLR articles, too, unless you've changed them to make them unique. This lowers the score they give your website, which in turn lowers the placement you'll get when a search engine user types in your keywords. The lower the search engines results placement, the less chance your site will be seen. Studies show that almost all clicks on search engine results happen in the first three pages of the results, and most happen on the first page. Chances are, no one will ever see your site if, when they searched for your exact keywords, your site ended up on page 674 of the results!

The search engines like to keep a little mystery, so they never reveal exactly how they score websites they visit. However, many things can be ascertained from observation. One is that if a site contains content that is duplicated on other sites, like the article directory you got it from, its score is lowered significantly. Remember, too, that your competitors are searching the same article databases and may be using the exact same articles you are. That won't give you a competitive advantage! You need unique content to get your score raised and your website shown on the first page. There's no way around it.

Fortunately, this isn't as hard as you may have led yourself to believe. Here's a method that will give you great unique content without tearing your hair out researching and writing from scratch. First, find an article you'd like to use, if it wasn't already out there. Now, simply rewrite it. Read the first paragraph. Read it again, until you've digested the content and understand it completely. Put the article aside. Rewrite the paragraph you just read in your own words. Move the second paragraph and repeat. Continue until the article is finished. You now have unique content that will be fresh meat to the hungry search engines. Higher scores, better results rankings, and better and more targeted visitors result.

Writing unique content brings in free, targeted traffic. This is a skill every Internet marketer learns to master. If you haven't yet, it's time to take that first step. It's time for a new marketing plan and some of us would rather have our fingernails pulled out than sit down and work out a new strategy. So we put it off or wait for the new year to start this project, because the new year is a time to start over, to put the past year behind us and to make resolutions for the coming year. But, there is nothing that says we can only make resolutions at the beginning of the year.

One definition for resolution is, "A course of action determined or decided on." A marketing plan could be considered a course of action determined or decided on for the operation of a business. A marketing plan encompasses every aspect of a business. It is more than selling, more than advertising and, it can be done any time of the year. Furthermore, it can and should be reviewed several times a year.

Often, we start a new marketing plan by taking up where the old plan left off. We review that plan, maybe update a few items. We start out by asking "What went wrong? What went right?" This approach assumes all the data is in and all that is needed is to eliminate the things that did not work out and beef up the things that did work.

While that is a legitimate and very workable way to approach building marketing strategies, the focus is a bit narrow. It does not help shine a light on new opportunities, changes in the marketplace or industry, or new methodologies that might improve efficiency. Furthermore, the best marketing results come from tightly focused marketing that clearly communicates to a targeted audience.

In a workaday world that gives us little time for reflective consideration, we often tend to rush this process and assume that the company is doing what it should be doing, selling what it should be selling, marketing to the right audience, and is organized and staffed the way it should be. This year, let's take a moment and ask ourselves more questions about the market, our audience, our resources and our competition. Your marketing plan can take a whole new direction when you get the answers to questions such as: "Is this still the right thing to sell? Is this still viable? Is this what people want? Does it still fit with our corporate identity and mission? Who wants this product or service, and what are the benefits they believe they get? How do our company, our products and our services compare to similar companies, products and services in the marketplace today? Has our competition changed their product or business model?"

Once you get a good feel for the marketplace and any new opportunities or challenges coming from outside the business, it's time to take a look inside with questions like: "Have we added capabilities, skills or knowledge that suggest we serve new markets? Are there capabilities, skills, knowledge or equipment that we need to develop or acquire? Or should we be narrowing our focus to take advantage of specialized skills and services? Have we tried to become everything to everyone? Could we be number one in a niche market?"

If you honestly evaluate both the external and internal influences on your business or product, it becomes easy to develop a marketing mix for success. You will learn what you need to be telling clients and prospects and you will know who that target audience is. You will likely get information that indicates where your marketing and advertising budget should be allocated.

Whatever questions you ask, just be sure to ask them. One tip: If, like most of us, you don't have time for a long client and prospect survey, study what your competition is doing and evaluate what they do that is truly successful (not just everything they do), and look through your own customer records for trends, problems and successes.

Whats your competition?

If they like your site and what you have to offer, request the email address of friends and family so you can send an invitation to those people to take a look at your site. Or, depending on the site, offer a referral program where customers can earn something for every so many people they get to sign up and give you their email addresses. A third option in the email list building process is telemarketing. In this process, you build your email list by contacting customers over the phone and letting them know they could perhaps avoid the call if they signed up for the email service.

Three Things You Must Do Before You Submit To Article Directories

Article Marketing is a great way to get the word out about yourself and your business. Even people that have never written before are finding success writing short informative articles and marketing them through Article Directories. The great thing is you don't have to be a professional writer to benefit from this Internet based form of marketing. It's simply a matter of writing about something you know or are interested in, and writing your article as if you were talking to a friend sitting next to you. While I believe just about anyone is capable of writing an article that is worthy of being published, there are a few things to avoid when writing your article to keep it from winding up on the publishing scrap pile.

Of all the mistakes that writers make, gross spelling errors is one of the most blatant. When I speak of spelling errors, I'm not talking about the occasional misspelling of a word, or using the word in the wrong context like using 'there' instead of 'their' but we are talking about articles that are written as if the writer has never opened a dictionary before. The thing is, there really is no reason to submit an article full of misspelled words. All one needs to do, is use a 'spell checker' to proofread their article. Some article directories like 'Ezine Articles' even provide a free spell checker that will let you check your spelling before submitting the article. No matter how good you think your spelling is, my advice is to use a spell checker before submitting your article. I always use one before I submit an article, and I'm amazed at the spelling errors I find in my writings.

Another mistake that writers make is writing an article that is either too long or too short. You want to try and get in the habit of saying what you have to say as concisely as possible. I usually try to compose my articles with a structure of 5-7 paragraphs and word count of between 400-700 words. Any less than 400 words, and most newsletter publishers and owners of websites won't bother to use it for publication. It's the same with articles that run on forever. Remember, you are not writing a book, you just want to compose a short, entertaining or informative article that others will read and hopefully post on their website. Your goal is to have your article distributed around the Internet as much as possible. Keeping your articles short but concise will help you to accomplish this goal.

One of the most egregious errors that I see some authors make is the misuse of the 'Resource Box'. It's a shame to see a well written article about some topic only to see the Resource Box not being used properly. For instance, if you're writing an article about Tropical Fish, you wouldn't want to include a link in your Resource Box that takes the visitor to a site that tells them how they can save money on their taxes with a piece of software. You want to link the information in the Resource Box to the article as much as possible. If you are writing a somewhat general article about making money, you're probably safe in linking to most other sites about making money in one form or another. On the other hand, if your article is written about a particular niche, then use the Resource Box to send your visitors to a website that relates to what your article is about.

Article marketing is simply a numbers game. The higher your article volume, the higher all your other numbers will be. That's it, thank you and good night.

Really I could stop there and you would have some great and useable information. But there is this little thing about minimum word count, so I'll explain that statement a bit more.

Article marketing is a numbers game

Here is why this statement is so important and powerful. Most people that begin in article writing and article marketing will write one or maybe even a few articles, wait for all the wonderful results that do not come right away, and then claim that article marketing does not work.

Article marketing works. Some people do not work, however.

The bare minimum number of articles on the internet that you need to just begin to see a steady trickle of traffic is 25. Everything after 25 articles increases the trickle.

If you are serious about article marketing, life really begins at 250 articles. If this article is accepted, it will give me 1017 articles on just one article directory. I could not stop the flood of daily traffic if I wanted to, and I sure don't want to.

Here is what I know -

If I want more traffic, I write more articles.

If I want more prospects, I write more articles.

If I want to build my list, I write more articles.

The search engine optimization process involves many techniques and tricks, some quite straightforward while others can be a little underhand and could meet with search engine disapproval. There are a variety of methods involved in making a website as compatible and inviting as possible to search engine spiders, and link building is one of them.

There is such a thing as over optimization and an over zealous beginner to SEO can very easily find that their rapid fire link building has resulted in penalties from Google or other search engines. Your link building process should appear as 'natural' as possible. Bulk link buying and link farms are a big no these days.

Search engines such as Google have complex filters to judge the quality of inbound links. Though link popularity is the major factor in deciding your ranking, it is imperative that you build your links at a moderate pace and only link to relevant websites.

A link building strategy that adheres to search engine rules is important in order to hit the high page ranks. If you want to build up your links naturally and get in the good books of the search engines, follow the tips below:

- Try to have as many keywords as possible in the form of anchor text and subsequently reduce the 'click here' text to a minimum if you cannot do away with it totally.

- Many sites have links all in one place. This is not taken very kindly at all. Please make sure you spread your links as evenly as possible within the site.

- The gravest mistake you can make is trying to dramatically increase your links overnight. Links should be included gradually. A sudden jump in link popularity will only get your website flagged by the spam filters.

- It is imperative to focus on quality links - not just quantity. Do not allow links from casino, adult or pharmacy sites (unless you need to) since these sites are notorious for spamming.

- A combination of old websites and new ones can also work in your favor. Do not underestimate the importance of internal pages as they count in the SEO process as well. Always try and acquire back links or 3 way links for these inner pages.

- Submit your website to good and trusted directories on a long-term basis. The time limit and sandbox filters of search engines take this point very seriously.

- Links to advertisers and sponsors do not have much value. Try to gain inbound links from websites that provide high value content to surfers instead. Do this by providing high quality content on your own website that is regularly updated and always unique in order to provide your viewers and the surfers who frequently visit other sites with high quality content related to your niche. The uniqueness of the content on your site is crucial since viewers need new value on a regular basis.

There are numerous 'black hat' techniques that can blast your website to the top of the search engines in a very short time. Though these quick results provide short-term popularity and possibly sudden profits, the time spent at top will be short lived. You could get your site blacklisted by the search engines, which is the worst thing that could happen to a webmaster!

Do not aim for high velocity link building. A slow to moderate pace will take longer to yield results, but these results will last and can act as a platform to launch new and successful marketing campaigns.

Navigating through the changing seas of the internet marketing game requires discipline. Make sure you are a continual learner, but at the same time, dont try to apply too many of those ideas at once!

I once read a remark that if a SEO company can not top (at least) for the keyword "SEO" in Google, it can not be a worthy company.

I know a lot of people might come up with the same logic while searching for the best SEO Company for his site. But let's take a look at the scenario from some different angles.

Why do you target some keywords in your website? The answer is obviously to get targeted visitors who are looking for some service - those who are my potential customers.

But does the word SEO have the potential to bring me genuine customers? For example if my site ranks 1^st on Google for 'SEO Services' and 'SEO', which one do you think will get me desired visitors who are willing to buy a service? The answer is obviously SEO Services. And at the same time the competition for SEO Services is comparatively less (but tough) then SEO.

Most of the good SEO companies get clients on recommendations. For example, if I like XYZ Company's job, I will recommend it for my friend's site. And thus XYZ get more clients - simple.

Another big reason is that a lot of SEO companies do not want their name to be associated with the term SEO to search engines.

But if some SEO companies say that due to heavy work pressure that could not concentrate on the ranking of their website - do not believe them or do not work with them either. If they can not find time to work for their mother site, how much time can you expect for your own site?

Now, the problem is somewhere else - every one claims them to be the best SEO Company. And unless I get recommendation from some reliable sources, it is tough to decide their credibility.

So how to find the best SEO company?

To start with it is better to go for local SEO companies (for example search for Florida or Ft Lauderdale SEO and website marketing in search engines if you are from that region). If you are new to internet marketing, this is the best option to start as they are comparatively cheap and you may get someone in your extended friend's community who can give you some feedback about them. At least you can reach them physically at any point of time.

If some companies say that they will help you guaranteed top ranking in Google or Yahoo for a very competitive keyword like SEO Services and they will do it within one month - do not work with them. Getting a good search engine rank is a long term process and no one can guarantee it. And even if they do it with some black hat SEO techniques, it may harm your business in the long run and this sort of ranking is normally not sustainable for a long period.

Ask for their track record - if they have done some good work they will be happy to show you a glimpse. Thus, you can have a good understanding of their company.

Take a look at their website to find out if it is clear or not. Take a look at their page rank and do a search on Google to find out what people are saying about them.

And more importantly ask them straight about their strategy to promote your site for better search engine rankings. Sign the agreement only if you are satisfied with their strategy.

Always remember that good SEO companies will work with you (not alone) to improve your search engine rank.

Many people who get started in article marketing or even Internet marketing in general try to market Internet marketing products. However, they themselves have not made a few decent sales online, let alone make a full-time income on the Internet.

Truth is, there are not many people out there who are interested in making money online as there are people who want to...

- Lose weight

- Get better in relationships

- Get happier

- Have less stress

- And lots more of other stuff!

And there are many more other niches. You'll also be competing with article marketers who are not so into Internet marketing like many of the readers of this article will be. Most of the writers in those niches submit a few articles for testing or merely for small branding purposes.

However (and that is a big however!), if you use them purely for out and out traffic generation to your websites, you can get almost all your articles in the 3-digit zone easily. Many of my articles in other niches reach a 100+ page views after just a week or so and many others hit 300 or more page views.

The simple fact is this: articles in other niches away from the 'make money online' niche or 'Internet marketing' niche generate far more page views, which means far more traffic to your website. You'll also get far less sophisticated competition who are no well-versed in Internet marketing tactics!

So make use of this information to start marketing in niche markets if you haven't. I'm not saying don't sell to the Internet marketing niche (please do so if you have a quality product!), but venture into other niches where it is potentially a lot more profitable.
