Smart File Names For High Rankings

One of the simplest methods to improve your search engine optimization is to look at the way you name your files.

Keywords in file names are a good thing. Don't call your webpages names like "services.html" or "products.html" actually use your keywords. Here is an example for you.

Let's say you sell tennis balls online and you have three brands available, Slazenger, Wimbledon and Wilson and your webstore is at www.bigballsintennis.com.

A mistake would be to call your sales page something like this

www.bigballsintennis.com/product1.html
www.bigballsintennis.com/product2.html
www.bigballsintennis.com/product3.html

This just tells search engines that you sell products! What you want to do is use the keywords for the main search terms you want that page to show up for in search engines. Something like this would be better.

www.bigballsintennis.com/slazenger-tennis-balls.html
www.bigballsintennis.com/wimbledon-tennis-balls.html
www.bigballsintennis.com/wilson-tennis-balls.html

Note that it would also be a good idea to have a tennis balls homepage that links to all those pages but focuses on the keyword tennis balls only. Something like:

www.bigballsintennis.com/tennis-balls.html

Conduct Keyword Research

Now remember you probably face a bit of competition for the keywords "tennis balls" since globally you might have a few competitors also selling online. You should conduct some keyword research first and determine which phrases you want to work towards optimizing for.

You might notice there is little competition for Slazenger and work towards optimising for sales of that brand. Maybe your research shows that most people are using the phrase "tennis ball shop" so you should optimize for those keywords. Or you might consider working towards a local geographical niche, like "tennis balls Bahamas" or your home town or state.

Remember you don't have to get things right the first time. Do some keyword research, choose some keywords and then test to see how high up you can get your pages to rank for certain key phrases. If those phrases don't bring in traffic keep testing until you find a combination that works. Remember though that file names are only a small part of the overall SEO process and if you only optimize your file names and not the on-page copy, the incoming links, your internal site structure etc. etc, your efforts in file name design will have little impact.

How To Structure Long File Names

Dashes make for better file naming - at least that's what research in Google has demonstrated.

When I say dashes it's like this -

as opposed to this -

www.bigballsintennis.com/wilson_tennis_balls.html

I have been structuring my files with dashes for a long time now. I made this decision not only for SEO purposes but for human navigation too. Many people don't know what an underscore is and even have trouble finding it on their keyboard. Dashes look clearer on screen and act as a good divider for keywords.

The only thing to be careful with is to not go over board with file names. Don't do this -

www.bigballsintennis.com/the-best-cheapest-most-impressive-wilson-tennis-balls-you-will-find-online.html

Clearly this is just silly. You are diluting your keywords, creating a page that is next to impossible to remember or type in manually and are certainly not helping your search engine optimization.

One of the challenges especially new article writer's face is how to make sure their articles and get picked up. One of the things I teach my students, members, and mentees, are the dozens of small nuances that help you get your articles picked up more often.

one of the ways to get your articles picked up more often it is to sculpt a really great article body. Here are three tips for sculpting a great article body.

Tip 1 - Make sure you create lots of white space. So many times I see writers just sort of squash their article body all together. When you create white space you give the impression that the article is easily read. This is very important on the Internet because it can be difficult to read online for some people.

Tip 2 - Use bullet points, numbers, lists, laws and rules. Anything that allows you to break up your article body in two separate areas. Bullet points, lists, etc. create bite sized chunks of information that are easily consumed by the reader.

Tip 3 - Use sub headings. A subheading is simply a mini headline used to begin another thought or section of your article. An example would be a subheading I used above when I wrote sculpting a great body and your articles. This lets the reader know a new section is on the way and light tips wine into break the article up, create lots of white space, and gives the impression that this is an easily read article.

6 Bum Marketing Tips For You To Tweak To Start Earning Money

If you have been looking for some bum marketing tips and still not making money, I have some tips you can use to tweak your online business, and hopefully, start making some money. And I will explain through my experiences what were the changes I made and how much money I have made making some of these changes.

I was lazy in the first 2 months and it was only last month that I decided to take action and below are my steps and results. I was using Ewen Chia Super Affiliate and Frank Kern MAss Control Revealed as a basis of my changes in marketing the product webpage and strategy.

These are the changes I made:

Change Number 1: Choose Just 1 Affiliate Product

First step I made was to eliminate the different products I was trying to promote on 1 page and choose just 1 product that I research and feel that it will convert readers to customers.

Change Number 2: Landing page

I made a complete overhaul of my webpage from a review style page to a squeeze page style with just 1 sole purpose, and that is to capture email addresses.

Change Number 3: Headlines

Made some keyword research and change my headlines and sub headlines in order to try to incorporate some search engine optimization as well as appeal to readers to sign up for my newsletter.

Change Number 4: Include Free EBooks

I went scouring around the internet to find some free eBooks that I can give away. The reports are also rebrandable so that when a reader reads the eBook and decides on getting the product, it will be my affiliate links.

Change Number 5: Setup Autoresponder Series

The emails are designed such that the email provides useful value and also include my affiliate links to the product I am trying to promote.

Change Number 6: Outsource My Article Writing

Since I was lazy, I outsource some articles to friends to write and just use articles as my main source of traffic, and I only sent to EzineArticles.com as my only source of traffic.

And that's all there was to it. The change was made on 15 January 2008 and as of 17 February 2008, I made $126.96. And bear in mind, I was doing it the lazy method, mainly using the emails taken from affiliate websites, taking the designs from affiliate product, and free eBooks from the product owners as well. Even some of the articles were not written by me.

The Harsh Reality - It's Top 30 or Nothing

If, as a Internet marketer, you expect to survive and be found , you need to learn how to: 1) place your pages in the high-traffic core, and 2) achieve a high ranking in the major search engines. Otherwise, your sites will be like little islands in the sea: remote, inaccessible, and forgotten.

This means you are solely relying on people typing in your URL in the command lines of their browsers, and this only works if your site is well-known. The days of serendipitous surfers and "accidental traffic" stumbling onto your site are over. On this "new" Internet made up of billions of Web pages, site owners must use every tool available to them to attract visitors. And even then, you face stiff competition.

I only consider a ranking to be a listing within the top 30, because studies have shown that must searchers do not keep clicking through past the third page. In fact, most searchers do not even click-through to the second page. Therefore, a #10 ranking is much more valuable than #27, and #64 is pretty much worthless.

Now, many other search engines do display more than 10 results per page. So, in this case, should you be happy if you are within the top 120? No, because most users still don't appear to click below #30, no matter how many listings are on a page.

For example, if a user performs a query in Google for "cheese" and your site is not listed, then no matter how many types of cheese you sell, or how great your cheesy recipes are, that user will not and cannot arrive at your site. For a search engine to deliver a visitor to your site, the visitor must first click on a search result for your site. Often, owners of large sites that have been on the Web for a while will discover that they have a very large number of search engine referrals. This is because they actually have rankings even before they begin optimizing pages. However, many of these "accidental" rankings will most likely be on keywords that are rarely sought by users. This is due to the fact that the most highly queried keywords are also the most competitive. In other words, it is highly unlikely that you would find accidental rankings for "MP3." The difference between "accidental" ranking and SEO is that SEO is the deliberate optimization of search results in the pursuit of traffic.

The whole point of SEO is to increase traffic to a site. But not just traffic. You want qualified users who are seeking content, product or service that your site can provide. Therefore, it is important to remember what a ranking actually is. Many times SEO professionals will be overjoyed with a top 10 ranking that a site has achieved, and the site owner (rightfully) says, "So, what? I still don't have any sales!" A ranking doesn't directly equal traffic, and traffic doesn't directly equal sales.

Article Marketing - A Powerful Way to Promote a Site

Article marketing is one of the best ways to promote your website or affiliate product. For instance, I've got a small site that sells a certain type of electronics product through Amazon. I spent maybe ten hours on setting up the site and writing 20 or so product descriptions. I also wrote a few promotional articles. I've not touched the site since I built it just before Christmas. It's made me a few hundred dollars per month ever since with regularity. The only way I promoted the site was through those few articles.

A lot of internet marketers have heard about the power of article marketing, but they haven't tried it yet. Some try, but find writing the articles takes up too much of their time. There are two solutions to this quandary:

• Learn to write faster
• Hire someone else to write.

Unfortunately, a lot of people feel unsure about their writing ability. Let me set your mind at ease. The level of ability you need to write promotional type articles is not that high. You need to be able to write grammatically, and you need to be able to spell correctly. A good word processor will take care of most (not all) of your problems here.

I've had people tell me they would like to write articles, but they freeze up when they sit down in front of the computer.

Their problem is over thinking their article. You're not writing War and Peace! All you're trying to do is to write a clear article with one thought in it. Personally, I write only a few types of articles. Most are from personal experience, like this one. I try not to over think the article. I try to just write it just like I speak. I treat the computer like a friend who I am explaining something to.

You don't actually want your article to have too much information. In a way, you don't want it to be too good. This is true for any web content where your goal is to get the person to click on a link to go to some other site, either an affiliate site or your own site.

In the "biz" we call this idea "slipperiness." When a visitor reads an article that's slippery, he thinks...Hmmm, that's interesting, I think I'll click that link and see what that's about."

If the article is not slippery enough, then the visitor tends to get stuck on the article. It answers all his questions without giving him a reason to click through to the money page. That's not what you want. What you want is for your article to deliver enough information to interest your readers, but not satisfy them. The old comedians said it best, "Always leave them wanting more!"

Brutally Effective Keyword Density Strategies That Are Crucially Important

Article marketing is one of my favourite methods of traffic generation. It is free and it generates leads that convert up to 10 times better than leads from other sources.

A few years ago search engine optimization was extremely simple. All you needed to do was get a few reciprocal links and repeat the keywords that you were targeting and you would get good search engine rankings.

These days the search engines have become a lot more advanced. Google uses Trust Rank which basically means that you need to at least have some sites that it trusts to link to you to achieve good rankings. For example this could be a human edited directory like Yahoo or a major article directory like EzineArticles. The other very important factor is that keyword density is becoming insignificant with latent semantic indexing. For example Google will look at the theme of a website and base the rankings of a particular keyword on all the content on your website.

The point that I am trying to make is that before all you needed to do was stuff your keywords in your web page and you would achieve good rankings. These days you need to have content based on a similar theme to achieve those same rankings for a keyword.

Here is a very advanced strategy that will work very well with latent semantic indexing. You need to use a silo structure on your website. So for example if you have a body building website and your home page has a link to abdomen training. You can improve your rankings by including a link to your category and from this category you would have links to all the subcategories. In this example this could be lower abdomen training.
